This position will report to the Dean of the College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences and is responsible for coordinating all academic, research/development and public service programs of the Department.

Tenure status negotiable, 9-month faculty position with 12-month chair responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides effective leadership for teaching, research, and outreach programs in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences consistent with the mission and goals of the College and the University.
Responsible for the over-all supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff employed in the department.
Coordinates the preparation and management of annual program budgets, student recruitment, retention, advisement and outcome assessment programs and curricula revision and development.
Actively seeks and develops new resources of funding for departmental
programs and takes an active role in developing stronger relations with public and private entities at state and national levels in biology, renewable resource management, soil, water, agronomic, horticultural, and molecular biological agencies and organizations.
Teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, and advises students in area of specialization.
Serves as liaison between the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and other departments or programs at the University, and interacts with various publics in order to promote the Department.
Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

Ph.D. in an area of specialization in Plant and Soil Sciences, Biology or closely related area

Experience in coordinating/administering programs in Plant and Soil Science, Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental sciences and Biology

A demonstrated record of cumulative accomplishments in teaching, research, scholarly productivity and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to organize, manage and provide leadership for the Department
Evidence of the ability to work harmoniously with students, faculty, staff and various publics
Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and other professional accomplishments
