Binghamton University, one of the highest-ranking public universities in the nation, seeks a chair to be part of its growing Department of Social Work, which includes an MSW and a newly developed BSW program. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, creative team of cutting-edge scholars and educators, who are committed to preparing students for multi-level social work practice grounded in social justice principles.
The Department of Social Work is in Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). CCPA is comprised of five departments – Human Development, Public Administration, Social Work, Student Affairs Administration, and Teaching, Learning and Educational Leadership – as well as an interdisciplinary doctoral program in Community Research and Action. CCPA also collaborates with the administration of interdisciplinary Masters in Public Health and Masters in Sustainable Communities programs. CCPA is located in the heart of the city of Binghamton, in close proximity to local agencies with which faculty partner. The Chair of Social Work will report directly to the Dean of the College and will be responsible for leading departmental faculty and staff in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and practice. This individual will also be a member of the Dean’s Council and contribute to management decisions regarding the overall operation of the College, and interact closely with other key campus administrators. They will also establish important collaborative relationships with the Chairs of the other departments/programs as well as the Associate and Assistant Deans of CCPA.

Chair Position Requirements: Requirements for the position include having an MSW with two years full-time equivalent post-MSW practice experience and a doctorate (social work preferred). We welcome all areas of research and expertise. Applicants who demonstrate a well-defined research agenda with significant scholarly activity, the potential to apply for and obtain external research support, and experience collaborating across disciplines will be strongly considered. In addition, we are particularly interested in applicants with strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills who will bring energy and enthusiasm to the position.
