Position Summary

The adjunct instructor for ELAP Program provides intensive English language instruction in the areas of Reading and Vocabulary, Listening and Speaking, Grammar and Writing to international adult language learners . When the students exit the ELAPProgram successfully, most pursue a degree from the University of St. Francis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Use the learner goals inside the ELAP syllabus to guide instruction
  • Plan for instruction
  • Provide and keep records of informal assessments
  • Keep attendance records
  • Offer feedback to the Asst. Director of ELAP of students’ language competencies exiting the ELAP program
  • Provide textbook recommendation and use those textbooks as resources for class
  • Participate in beginning of the semester staff meetings
  • Determine if students have been placed appropriately though iTEP testing using informal assessments
  • Engage in professional development
  • Attend/participate in at least one IEP related conference/course/ workshop/ professional development opportunity per year
  • Participate in IPO curriculum development as needed
  • Submit semester grades at the end of every semester
  • Be evaluated by the supervisor once a semester
  • Provide lesson plans and participate in a post evaluation
  • Participate in the International Banquet in May
  • Use the University calendar to schedule final exams
  • Adhere to the University’s Professional Code of Conduct
  • Adhere to FERPA regulations

Minimum Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience teaching adults language
  • Masters in a related field: TESOLESL/Bilingual, English Language/Literacy or Adult Education

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience teaching adult language learners
  • English Language Proficient
  • World Traveler
  • Bi- or Multi-lingual (optional)
  • Culturally competent instructor who is compassionate and respectful of cultural differences
  • Clear and error free speech patterns
  • Capable of teaching APA style
  • Experience with International Service or Study Abroad

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule

  • Daytime – Teach a minimum of 2 hrs. two days a week or a maximum of 6 hrs. per week.
  • Two days a week – Monday through Thursday
