Basic Function:

Kent State University at Stark is accepting applications for a full-time Non-Tenure-Track Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Music starting August 2019.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

The candidate will be responsible for the direction of the University Chorus and the Kent Stark Chorale, the teaching of private voice lessons and studio classes in both popular and classical styles, as well as other potential subjects dependent on the candidate’s additional interests and specializations. Our choirs are mostly comprised of music tech majors with limited vocal experience. We are seeking a passionate educator capable of crafting strong musically formative experiences which contribute to the pedagogical mission of our program.

A full-time non-tenure track appointment requires a teaching load of 15 credit hours per semester and faculty are actively engaged in pedagogical innovation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s in Music required, Doctoral degree preferred. The ideal candidate would also assume campus concert organizational and management roles, along with additional duties, commensurate with qualifications and departmental needs. A Non-Tenure-Track appointment carries with it the expectation of teaching excellence, developing high quality pedagogy, professional development, and other service duties related to teaching.

Successful candidates must have versatility in classical, folk, and popular styles for both individual voice and choral settings; experience with recruitment and retention; and a strong pedagogical commitment to teaching of curriculum in applied areas, ensemble direction and related fields. Evidence of collaboration, teamwork and leadership roles in departmental activities as well as success within diverse styles of music including current trends in musical theater, pop, world music, jazz, contemporary and traditional western canon.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
