Instruction Curriculum Leadership

Position Summary
Instructor of Special Education in the Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership. It is a one-year (12-month) appointment with possible renewal for a maximum of 3 years of service. (This position is not eligible for tenure).

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teach undergraduate and graduate Special Education field-based methods courses on or off-campus or online
• Supervise student teachers and field experiences
• Model technology integration in classroom experiences
• Collaborate with local school systems in the preparation of teachers
• Provide professional Special Education leadership in the community
• Other duties as assigned by the department chair

QUALIFICATIONS
Required QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree (doctorate desired) in Special Education or closely related field
• three years of successful Special Education teaching in K-12 settings
• academic credentials reflecting a sufficient knowledge base for teaching special education courses

Desired QUALIFICATIONS
• academic credentials reflecting a sufficient knowledge base in special education courses to teach several of the following: overview of special education, special education assessment, teaching methods, behavior management, professional practices, working with families or early childhood special education
• evidence of or potential for successful teaching experience of teacher education classes and supervising related clinical experiences
• collaboration and team teaching, technology utilization and online instruction
• commitment to facilitating positive change in teacher education programs
• demonstrated commitment to cultural responsiveness, equity and inclusiveness
• knowledge of, and appreciation for, working with students, faculty, and schools in diverse settings (urban, suburban, and rural)
