The University of Gloucestershire is looking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational Lecturer in Education who will share a passion for, and enjoyment of, teaching primary mathematics. This post is available in the School of Education and, specifically, the Initial Teacher Education subject community.  As a priority, applicants should be able to demonstrate an understanding of what underpins effective teaching and learning in primary maths. The successful candidate will be an outstanding practitioner, with a proven track record and substantial experience of primary education. Prior experience of school-based Maths subject leadership, or of being a member of the Senior Leadership Team in a school, would be advantageous. Experience of working in EYFS and Key Stage 1 would also be valuable.

If appointed, you will lecture on undergraduate and postgraduate courses and also plan and lead seminars across initial teacher education programmes. Candidates should have a good understanding of current thinking and initiatives in maths education, alongside an understanding of fundamental theory. You should demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of initial teacher education and the student experience both during and post training. Example duties will include workshop planning, teaching, marking, personal tutoring, placement supervision and course development work. Ideally, candidates will have experience of supporting trainee teachers in their school settings and will have begun to develop mentoring and coaching skills. All applicants should be able to present to a wide range of audiences with confidence, precision and empathy.

Members of the primary Maths team in the School of Education play a pivotal role in our outstanding programmes. They are dedicated to the development of new subject partnerships and professional networks. They are Strategic Partners in the GLOW Maths hub, working closely with the Local Authority personnel. In addition to working across a range of under and postgraduate provision, our new colleague would be expected to enhance our work with schools, continuing professional development projects and Maths conference planning. The team are currently involved in a number of research projects, so there will be immediate opportunities for research development.

The post is part-time: 0.6 FTE.
