The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of South Florida in Tampa invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin August 2019. This position will be renewable annually (pending availability of funds) for three years, with a possibility of a fourth.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the WGS core curriculum and graduate courses in the MA curriculum; these will include Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies and Feminist Methodology. There will also be opportunities to teach in the candidate’s area of expertise. This Visiting Assistant Professor position will include serving on (and possibly directing) MA thesis committees. Our Visiting Assistant Professor will be part of a dedicated teaching community, mentoring graduate students, and supervising teaching assistants assigned to WGS classes.

The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at USF has more than 125 students pursuing an undergraduate major, concentration, or minor; a core of seven full-time faculty in the department; and 70 affiliate faculty across the university. We have a graduate program that offers both the Master’s degree and a Graduate Certificate, and usually employ 8-10 teaching assistants / year. One of the oldest Women’s Studies departments in the country, USF was the first public university in Florida to offer a BA degree in Women’s Studies. Required Qualifications

Successful applicants must have a Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender, and/or Sexuality Studies or a Ph.D. in a related field with a graduate certificate or concentration in Women’s, Gender, and/or Sexuality Studies. We will consider well-qualified applicants who are ABD.

Preferred Qualifications

Specialization is open, but candidates must be able to teach Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies and Feminist Research Methodology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; candidates must be prepared to teach in a graduate-level program. Ideal specializations would include (but are not limited to): gender and sustainability, trans and queer of color critique, and queer and sexuality studies. The ability to contribute to our new minor in Queer and Sexuality Studies would be a plus. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach both face-to-face and online courses.
