DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Educational Studies and Leadership is seeking faculty to serve at the Bowie State University located on the Bowie Main Campus, online or other Educational Centers, for the Department of Educational Studies and Leadership. This position could be a satellite/remote position or face-to-face based on the Department of Educational Studies and Leadership needs at the Bowie Main Campus, online or other Educational Centers. The position is a nine-month, tenure track faculty line with the opportunity for summer and winter course teaching. The candidate must be able to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service. Responsibilities include teaching educational statistics courses, research methods courses, dissertation courses and other courses based on department needs as well as assisting in the development of educational leadership activities and programs at the graduate level in the Department of Educational Studies and Leadership at Bowie Main Campus, online or other Educational Centers. Supporting existing cohorts and supporting accreditation processes and reports. This position requires teaching evening and/or weekend classes in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats. Other responsibilities include advising students in their dissertation research, developing, and updating online course modules, participating in professional development at the department level and/or conducting departmental training in an area identified by the department chair, working with local school districts, serving on departmental and university committees, working with students on the preparation and administration of the comprehensive examination. Also support in the accreditation processes and direct committees in areas where appropriate in addition to directing graduate student research and serve on dissertation committees, and any other duties assigned pertinent to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • We are seeking a highly qualified individual with an earned Doctorate in Educational Leadership or a closely related education field, accompanied by substantial K-12 leadership experience in progressive roles, including senior executive positions at the central office level in one or more school districts. Candidates with demonstrated higher education experience, particularly those with advanced technological skills in learning architecture and online course development, will receive full consideration. Ideal candidates will also have proven experience in teaching research-focused and dissertation courses to doctoral students, including service on dissertation committees; a strong background in statistical analysis, with the ability to teach statistical courses and proficiency in using quantitative and qualitative research software tools. The candidate should be prepared to demonstrate their teaching expertise in these areas; comprehensive experience in various educational settings, including urban, suburban, and rural contexts, with a deep understanding of educational policies, procedures, and laws; proficient in culturally relevant pedagogies, current research, and classroom assessment practices, with an ongoing engagement in professional organizations and scholarly activities; expertise in utilizing technology for teaching and a demonstrated ability to develop and implement online courses; a collaborative approach to working with diverse student populations and addressing diversity issues within educational systems and communities; capacity to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, both internally and externally.

    Minimum Training & Experience: PhD, or EdD in the teaching field in higher education or significant K-12 leadership experience in progressive leadership roles to include high level central office experience at the senior executive rank in one or more school systems. Teaching in a K-12 elementary setting for at least five years and progressive experience in K-12 leadership as a principal, district-level director, associate superintendent, or superintendent. Being highly effective in teaching Technology or Statistics. Has effective knowledge using Blackboard, PeopleSoft and Student Licensure Data System. Staying current with issues and trends in educational leadership is an expectation. Experience and/or interest in organizing educational opportunities for students, faculty and staff; ability to lead work groups to improve education for 21st century teaching and work collaboratively with outside partners.
