BASIC PURPOSE: Full-time 12-month Professor of Practice in the PA Program and School of Health Professions. Responsibilities include teaching and coordination of instructional faculty for the Physical Diagnosis and Clinical Procedures courses, in addition to other teaching duties as assigned. Principal Faculty will collaborate with the Program Director and Associate Program Director in the organization, administration, continuous and periodic review and assessment, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program and the curriculum. Principal Faculty will also collaborate with program leadership and the faculty in development, review, and revision of the mission statement, program vision, and program goals.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Primary teaching role and coordination of additional instructional faculty for the following courses:
    • Physical Diagnosis
    • Clinical Procedures
  • Other primary teaching duties as assigned by the Program Director, Associate Program Director, or Director of Didactic Education.
  • Fosters a program climate that values diversity among program stakeholders.
  • Acts as advisor to matriculated PA students for both the didactic and clinical years to include documented counseling and mentoring sessions.
  • Participates in all Program and University processes deemed necessary by the Program and Associate Program Directors, including service on faculty committees.
  • Assists in the review of applications for admission to include conducting interviews and supporting the recruitment and selection of students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess and maintain NCCPA certification
  • Must maintain an active state license to practice as a physician assistant
  • Must have a Master’s Degree in a health-related discipline
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing PA
  • Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University, as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Greater than 5 years of clinical experience
  • Experience teaching in a PA program or medical school
  • Experience with ARC-PA accreditation

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Supports the Director of Admissions, Assessment, and Academic Success in the development and implementation of remedial instruction and assessment tools.
  • Assists in development, review, and revision of the PA Program mission, vision, goals, and competencies.
  • Assists the Program Director and Director of Didactic Education in the organization, administration, continuous and periodic review and assessment, planning, development, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the Program, including the didactic curriculum.
  • Assists the Program Director and Director of Didactic Education with the preparation and analysis for ARC-PA accreditation activities and reports.
  • Teaches courses with which he/she has demonstrated competence and/or experience and as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Participates in lab, small group, and simulation activities.
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection of faculty members at the request of the Program Director.
  • Participates in University events as a representative of the PA Program and the School of Health Professions.
  • Participates in events external to the Program that increase awareness and reputation of the PA Program.
  • Regularly attends all scheduled staff and faculty meetings.
