ACCOUNTABILITY: Work under the direction of the Program Director, Department Chair, and the Assistant Provost of the College of Health Sciences.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:The duties and responsibilities of NEIT faculty are many and varied. Primary among them is to teach, to educate and train our students, and to ensure that their learning is sufficient to achieve a level of competence which they, their prospective employers and our society expect from a college graduate at the undergraduate and graduate degree levels.
By achieving the expected levels of competence, our students will be prepared to participate as contributing members of our society, and to succeed in and to enjoy satisfaction in their professional and personal lives.
This position will begin as adjunct faculty, beginning in Fall (September) 2025, moving to full time in Spring (March) 2026, conditional upon performance. This position is hybrid and requires at a minimum weekly attendance on campus in East Greenwich, RI, if full time status is attained.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Beyond being engaged in the teaching and learning described in general terms above, all are expected to contribute and participate as follows:
• Work cohesively with the clinical education coordinator, program director and faculty in developing the program, including curriculum, course design, and clinical experiences and immersion weeks.
• Teach a four-term year, each term consisting of ten weeks during a given calendar year. Assignments will primarily include evening classes, online.
• Provide clinical supervision to students during clinical outplacements and simulated cases.
• Work closely with the Clinical Education Coordinator to ensure documentation required for clinical placements is procured and current.
• In coordination with the Clinical Education Coordinator, identify, maintain, and/or recruit clinical outplacements for students within each student geographical area.
• In coordination with the Clinical Education Coordinator, design and facilitate clinical immersion weeks, completed within the tri-state area.
• Represent the university with a high degree of professionalism to establish and maintain relationships with clinical placement partners, supervisors, and others involved in clinical placements.
• Teach courses in speech language pathology in their areas of expertise, as assigned by their department chairs, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical applications.
• Full time faculty are required to travel to the NEIT campus for meetings, on campus activities (as required by the position and/or department chair) and clinical immersion weeks, and therefore must reside within the tri-state area (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut).
• Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in their subject areas.
• Newly appointed faculty are required to participate in the Instructional Development Program; more experienced faculty are required to participate in the NEIT Professional Development Program
• Design and facilitate program specific faculty training along with the program director/department chair/other faculty.
• Provide mentorship for newly hired faculty as appropriate.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the provost and department chair.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The expectations and responsibilities of all faculty require that all have the level of formal education normally expected in their respective disciplines as evidenced by earned degrees, diplomas, licenses, and certificates. In addition, all faculty are expected to have acquired a high level of experience through employment in their respective disciplines commensurate with their faculty responsibilities.
Faculty must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities.
• Education and experience appropriate to perform the stated essential job functions.
• Sufficient English language skills to make effective verbal presentations to prospective students, parents, and educational organizations.
• Good working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, and writing skills needed to write letters and create and complete various reports.
• Ability to assist the public cooperatively and courteously.
• Ability to work independently with minimum instructions, adhere to prescribed routines and practices, maintain records, and to make accurate reports.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Minimum Qualifications
• Possess a valid Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and be eligible for licensure as a speech-language pathologist in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
• Five years of experience providing clinical services in any setting working with adults as a speech language pathologist.
• Three years of experience providing supervision to graduate students, CFYs or other clinical support staff (e.g., SLPAs, SLP aides).
• Evidence of the ability to provide leadership for development or expansion of programs or services.
• Evidence of a commitment to culturally sustaining practices in diverse and inclusive contexts and communities
• Reliable transportation and internet access.
• Reside within the tri-state area (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut).
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with mentoring students and varied clinical experience in adult settings, including adult language, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, cognition, and/or voice disorders.
· Experience with online platforms (e.g., zoom, TEAMS) learning software (e.g., kahoot) and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).
· Experience teaching in the higher education setting.
· Experience teaching or providing services in an online format or program.
