Reporting to the President, this position manages the academic and student functions of the college, providing leadership to support and advance the college’s mission and vision. Responsible for strategic planning, strategic fiscal guidance, resource development, policy setting, overall academic and student affairs management, and advising the President on academic matters, trends in higher education and best practices in academic and student operations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides experienced leadership to all areas associated with academic and student affairs, including the development of short and long-term planning goals that meet the needs of students, and the communities served. Develops and administers or provides guidance to multiple budgets in a manner that promotes fiscal stability and aligns planning to resources.
  • Serves as a member of the College’s Leadership Team leading the articulation and advancement of the long-range vision for academic and student affairs and the college, the expansion and enhancement of all credit and non-credit educational programs, and the development of new programs.
  • Responsible for administrative oversight of the AVPASA, Academic Departments, Enrollment Services, Workforce Development, Early College, and administrative support staff.
  • Manages the curriculum development and approval process and identifies and develop new programs that meet the needs of business and industry; with a focus that emphasizes quality, access, student learning, and success. Conducts reviews/studies to determine the demand for new courses/programs and services, and reviews existing classes/programs and services for relevance and currency.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of academic strategic planning and assessment, policies and procedures. Integrates academic planning, program evaluation, and outcomes assessment into the strategic plan.
  • Supervises all matters relating to academic instruction, programs, services, and operations including budget management or guidance, academic policy development, academic program review, curriculum development, teaching effectiveness, scheduling, appointment, training, and evaluation. Approves academic schedules and supervises and evaluates academic department chairs, program coordinators, and faculty. Oversees the recruitment, selection, evaluation, development and promotion of faculty, staff and administrators within areas of oversight.
  • Oversees institutional accreditation and maintains effective relationships with accrediting associations. Serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer to NECHE.
  • Creates and sustains meaningful relationships with educational partners by developing articulation agreements and other partnerships needed to ensure a smooth transition for students.
  • With the AVPASA, oversees student support, residential life and student life programming including coordination of Student Senate and all clubs; coordinates the implementation of the college’s judicial policies.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance learning and promote programs and activities in support of student retention and success.
  • Maintains compliance with college policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Uses institutional data and research to guide strategic planning, resource allocation, and student success initiatives.
  • Represents the college in system-wide initiatives, legislative discussions, and community events to advance institutional priorities.
  • Collaborates closely with the Associate Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs to ensure alignment between academic programs, student support services, and institutional goals, fostering a seamless student experience.
  • Works in partnership with the Manager of Workforce Development to expand career pathways, strengthen employer partnerships, and enhance workforce training programs that meet regional labor market and general community needs.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the President.

Qualifications:Education: Master’s degree from a recognized college or university required. Doctorate degree desired.

Experience: Eight years of experience in academic administration in higher education including administrative or supervisory duties with responsibility for curriculum and program planning, development, and assessment; fiscal, personnel, and operational management; strategic enrollment and retention, accreditation, grant development, and strategic planning.

License/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License or access to statewide transportation.

Demonstrated ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide range of administrative and personnel issues while focusing on institutional needs and priorities. Understanding of innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to the academic enterprise with organizational sustainability and growth. Ability to work well in a team environment. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication and use of technology to produce professional presentations and reports. Ability to evaluate and analyze program effectiveness and resource utilization. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in the performance of duties. Project management skills including the ability to define projects, prioritize and manage multiple projects, measure, and evaluate progress and outcomes, and meet timelines while producing quality work. Proficient in the use of technology, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other graphic presentation software. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, recommend, and implement solutions in a timely fashion. Must be willing to maintain a professional and executive appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by management.
