Lincoln University of Missouri (LU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Agriculture, Environmental and Human Sciences. This role represents a remarkable opportunity to lead at an 1890 Land-Grant institution with a proud tradition of excellence in teaching, research, and extension services.

The Dean will serve as the chief academic officer for the College, overseeing all academic programs, Cooperative Research and Extension activities, faculty and staff development, resource management, fundraising, and external engagement. THE OPPORTUNITY

The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Environmental and Human Sciences will have the unique opportunity to strengthen and expand the academic, research, and public service missions of Lincoln University. With strong Land-Grant traditions, the College is poised to advance agricultural sciences, environmental stewardship, and human sciences in service to historically underrepresented and underserved populations. The new Dean will lead a committed team, foster cross-disciplinary innovation, and enhance Lincoln’s national visibility and impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Academic and Program Leadership

  • Oversee academic and instructional activities within the College.
  • Provide leadership for Cooperative Research and Extension programs.
  • Develop and enhance academic programs and curriculum.
  • Promote faculty development and mentorship.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration across departments and programs.
  • Serve as Director of Cooperative Research, fostering high-impact research initiatives.
  • Support the design and submission of competitive grant proposals.

Faculty and Staff Management

  • Recommend faculty appointments, promotions, tenure decisions, and terminations.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive environment for faculty and staff professional growth.
  • Ensure fair and strategic allocation of resources among departments.

Resource Development and Fundraising

  • Actively engage in fundraising efforts to support scholarships, research, facilities, and programming.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with alumni, industry, government agencies, and community organizations.
  • Oversee College budgets and ensure sound fiscal management.

Recruitment and Retention

  • Lead initiatives to recruit and retain outstanding students, faculty, and staff.
  • Enhance student support services to promote academic success and career readiness.

Strategic Planning and Community Engagement

  • Champion the College’s mission within the University and the broader community.
  • Advance strategic goals that align with the University’s mission as a Land-Grant institution.
  • Build strong partnerships to extend the reach and relevance of research and Extension services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS

Education

  • Earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution in agriculture, environmental sciences, human sciences, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Significant administrative experience leading a program, preferably with at least three years of higher education leadership as a department chair, director, or higher.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of the mission, values, and operations of Land-Grant institutions, particularly 1890 institutions.
  • Proven ability to work with underrepresented and underserved communities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and resource development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and advanced spreadsheet processing skills.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
  • Capacity to multitask and lead effectively in a complex, dynamic academic environment.
