The Department of Chemistry at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites outstanding applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank starting in August 2026. We welcome candidates specializing in organic chemistry who have the potential to establish a highly visible undergraduate research program that enhances the department’s existing strengths while expanding our expertise in organic synthesis. The primary teaching responsibility will be courses in the organic chemistry curriculum, in addition to developing innovative upper-level courses that diversify and enrich the department’s offerings. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching can collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly efforts within the School of Science and at TCNJ. The successful candidates will also demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence in STEM and higher education. A doctoral degree in organic chemistry or a closely related discipline is required for this position. While postdoctoral experience is preferred, candidates from diverse professional backgrounds will also be considered. Candidates who are ABD (all but dissertation) will be eligible only if they complete their degree before the start date. About the Chemistry Department

The Chemistry Department has 11 full-time faculty members, three full-time staff, and approximately 120 majors. We teach a 3/3 course load with in-load credit for mentoring students in research. Pre-tenure faculty receive an additional reduction in teaching load for establishing their research program. We occupy a recently expanded and renovated Chemistry Building, which is part of TCNJ’s six-building STEM Complex, providing tremendous opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The Chemistry Department offers access to state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities and instrumentation, including NMR (two 400 MHz) and EPR (X-band) spectrometers, MALDI-TOF MS, LC-MS, XRD (single-crystal and powder), amongst a range of additional instruments. Additionally, the School of Science provides access to a high-performance computing cluster. TCNJ’s Department of Chemistry offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree with specializations in Biochemistry, Materials Chemistry, and Secondary Education. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree can be certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Over 80% of our majors participate in one or more semesters of research with a Chemistry faculty member. A large percentage of our undergraduates go on to earn Ph.D.s and careers in Chemistry. In the past five years, the department has been awarded over $2 million in external grants and has produced more than 40 peer-reviewed papers or book chapters. TCNJ faculty and students are very active with the American Chemical Society and hosted the Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting (MARM) in 2022 with the Trenton Local Section.
