University of The Bahamas College of Liberal & Fine Arts is pleased to invite applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor, Creole, Language & Literature. This full-time appointment will commence 1st August 2023.
The Department of Foreign Languages is seeking candidates with the ability to teach all levels of the Creole language, literature and culture courses and French language as a secondary area of instruction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the HOD, Department of Foreign Languages, the Assistant/Associate Professor, Creole, Language & Literature shall:
- Engage programme review and academic programme promotion in conjunction with the home department at the Oakes Field Campus;
- Teach & Develop courses in Creole or French language, speech, grammar, Creole literature and culture;
- Maintain classroom interaction with Anglophone students;
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate students and a willingness to promote foreign language learning through community outreach;
- Increase access to language education through the use of technology;
- Contribute to the development of quality distance education options for language learners.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Familiarity with the work of the Haitian Creole Academy;
- Evidence of research and scholarship in Haitian Creole is highly desirable.
- Applicants should have native fluencies in Haitian Creole and proven proficiencies in French;
- Tertiary-level teaching experience;
- Publications in the areas of Creole language and Haitian studies;
- Proficiency in Creole, French and English.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have an earned PhD in Creole or French Language or related studies from an accredited institution, and with a rich university experience in teaching Creole, French language, Haitian literature and culture.
Setting. University of The Bahamas (UB) is a vital catalyst for national development. Chartered on 10th November 2016, UB had its genesis in The College of The Bahamas which was established in 1974. Since 1995, the institution’s academic offerings have expanded through the introduction of baccalaureate degree programmes offered across a broad range of approximately 60 majors. Master’s degree programmes have included an MBA and an MSc in Reading and Inclusive Education as well as graduate degree programmes offered in collaboration with various US universities. UB operates from the Oakes Field Campus and the Grosvenor Close Centre in New Providence; UB-North in Grand Bahama; and the Gerace Research Facility in San Salvador.
