Job Description

Old Dominion University’s Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership in the Darden College of Education & Professional Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in higher education beginning July 2022. Applicants should be comfortable teaching in both our Community College Leadership and Higher Education programs. We invite scholars at the assistant or associate professor levels who are interested in the globalization of and international higher education including but not limited to international student affairs and comparative analysis. Those with strong quantitative analysis expertise are preferred. Candidates with expertise in finance in all types of postsecondary educational institutions are also encouraged to apply. Old Dominion University is classified as a Carnegie High Research Activity University. Candidates for this position should exhibit the ability to engage in a rigorous research agenda, publish in peer-reviewed research journals and outlets, and generate research-related grant activity. The candidate for this position should also expect to teach face-to-face, synchronous, distance, hybrid master’s and doctoral graduate courses in the Higher Education and Community College Leadership programs. Responsibilities 

  • Engage in scholarly activity (e.g., publications in peer-reviewed journals, grant activity)
  • Teach face-to-face, hybrid, and synchronous online courses to master’s and doctoral level students
  • Provide service to the profession and university
  • Mentor/advise students
  • Lead and serve on doctoral dissertation committees

Salary

  • Research focus to include globalization in higher education, international higher education, and comparative studies.
  • Familiarity with Higher Education Finance, including Community College Finance
  • Strong potential for scholarly productivity and a research agenda
  • Ability to support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity
  • Ability to teach advanced quantitative methods
  • Equipped to support dissertations using advanced quantitative methods
  • Established teaching philosophy and demonstrated potential of effective postsecondary instruction
  • Ability to teach in both the Community College Leadership and Higher Education programs

Minimum Qualifications – Education or training

An earned doctorate in Higher Education or Community College Leadership, or related field by September 2022.Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching synchronous, distance classes via video conference
  • Experience teaching courses in postsecondary finance
  • Experience serving on dissertation committees
  • Ability to supervise dissertations that employ advanced quantitative research methods
  • Potential to obtain federal, state, and/or private grants and contracts and manage funded projects
  • Experience with or interest in establishing and maintaining international partnerships, including leading study abroad courses

Conditions of Employment
