The Music Department at Missouri Southern State University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position in Voice and Voice-related coursework. The successful candidate will teach applied voice lessons and related coursework such as Vocal Literature and Vocal Pedagogy courses. The MSSU Department of Music has strong collaboration between music disciplines and the Theatre Department. The chosen candidate will work closely with other full-time and part-time voice faculty and the Director of Choral Activities. Applicants with Musical Theatre experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

A master’s degree in a music-related field is required. A doctorate in vocal performance or other music-related field preferred. A doctorate is required for tenure-track and rank of Assistant Professor. Associate Professor rank contingent upon completed doctorate, college-level teaching experience, and current college rank.

The MSSU Department of Music is an exciting community of approximately 100 music majors and over 200 music participants, 12 full-time music faculty and 10 adjunct music faculty. The Music department currently offers degrees in Music, Music Industry, Music Education and several music-related certificates. The vocal music program is thriving and performs around the region with the Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Madrigal Singers vocal ensembles. These choirs combine with our Symphonic Choir that performs a large work for choir and orchestra every spring. Students within the vocal program have successfully made semi-finals and finals in regional and national solo competitions. The Department of Music also works closely with the local opera company, Heartland Opera. Graduates of the department have careers as public school music teachers, professional performers, and university professors.
