The Master of Social Work Program (MSW) at Fayetteville State University (FSU) prepares graduates for advanced social work practice and leadership with a focus on issues concerning children, families, the military, mental health, and substance abuse. The program is designed to prepare graduates to practice with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations in rural, urban, and military settings. The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program is fully accredited by the CSWE.

Description of Work:
The successful candidate will teach primarily in the graduate program but will demonstrate the ability to cross teach at both BSW and MSW levels, serve as a maintain office hours, mentor students, engage in scholarly activities, participate on academic committees, and provide school, college, professional, university, and community service. In addition, the candidate will maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter pertinent to their specialization area. Salary/rank is contingent upon qualifications. The ability to teach online is required.
Description of Work Continued:
Duties And Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Teaching:
- Teach a 3/3 course load
- Ability to teach face-to-face, hybrid and online (synchronous and asynchronous)
- Develop and teach courses as determined in collaboration with the MSW Director
- Ensure courses and syllabi are current and available to all students
- Demonstrate competency in teaching as evidenced by supervisor, peer, and student evaluations
- Demonstrate expertise in areas of teaching responsibility and content delivery method
- Participate in team and/or interdisciplinary teaching
- Participate in curriculum development
- Use faculty development opportunities and teacher effectiveness tools to improve teaching
- Supervise students on special projects (e.g., interprofessional, research projects)
- Maintain regular office hours, guide or support students who reach out for assistance, and identify students who are struggling and need extra attention or support to be successful through use of email, phone, or other appropriate means of communication
- Knowledge of CSWE accreditation
Scholarship/Practice:
- Engage in scholarly work related to an area of interest on a regular basis and as required by expectations of the Program
- Maintain an active and visible, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship
- Maintain currency of professional knowledge through regular continuing education
- Evidence of grant funding
Service:
- Participate in student recruitment and admission activities
- Serve as a faculty mentor for students and/or student organizations
- Attend all university academic events as required in the faculty handbook
- Attend all University, College, School, and Program faculty meetings
- Engage with students via co-curricular activities
- Assist in the accreditation process including preparation of documents for accreditation applications, annual reviews, and site visits
- Demonstrate the ability to support the mission of Fayetteville State University as evidenced by teaching and research/grant initiatives, advising, and mentoring of students
- Participate in professional activities and service to the University, College, School, community, and the profession
- Demonstrate a commitment to the implementation of a philosophical stance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in scholarship, teaching, and service
- ABD applicants will not be considered.
Associate Professor:
- PhD in Social Work or DSW
- Minimum 5 years teaching in higher education settings
- Evidence of active and visible scholarly agenda
- Evidence of extramurally funded research
- Evidence of service
- Expertise in qualitative or quantitative research methods or statistics
- Expertise in generalist and advanced social work practice and leadership with a focus on issues concerning children, families, the military, mental health, and substance abuse
- Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Superior communications skills – verbal and written – including phone, letters, email, voicemail, videoconferencing, one-on-one and group
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom, Canvas, and SharePoint
Assistant Professor:
- PhD in Social Work or DSW
- Evidence of teaching in higher education settings
- Evidence of scholarly agenda
- Expertise in qualitative or quantitative research methods or statistics
- Expertise in generalist and advanced social work practice and leadership with a focus on issues concerning children, families, the military, mental health, and substance abuse

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
The candidate must have an MSW degree from a program that is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and two years post-MSW practice experience, and a doctorate in social work. Demonstrate professional competence and knowledge of subject matter pertinent to their specialization area. Ability to utilize Canvas and innovative technology in the classroom. Ability to obtain external funding through grant writing. Ability to actively engage in scholarly activities such as publishing in refereed journals. Teaching experience at the MSW level is required, and the ability to cross teach at both BSW and MSW levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
The Department seeks candidates with demonstrated excellence in, enthusiasm for, and commitment to undergraduate teaching. This position requires strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Earned doctorate in social work or related field
- Teaching experience at the BSW level
- Commitment to scholarship and service
