Job Description

The Chemical and Materials Engineering (CME) Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Materials Science and Engineering. Description of the focus areas of the positions are given below:

  • Research specialization in the area of nuclear materials/materials related to nuclear power with the ability to cover the nuclear materials curriculum in the department.
  • Research specialization in any area of materials science and engineering. Individuals with a research focus on semiconductors/ ceramics/ materials for decarbonization/ polymers/ critical materials/ materials processing/ materials synthesis/ biomaterials and emphasis on experimental materials science and engineering are preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • All applicants must have a Doctoral Degree in Materials Science and Engineering/Metallurgy/nuclear engineering or another closely related field.
  • Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate instruction, service to the university and the profession.
  • Candidates whose specialization and interests complement existing research and instructional strengths in the department will be preferred.

    The Chemical and Materials Engineering Department is a vibrant, growing place to work and excel. Externally funded research has led to the establishment of a world-class research facility. Thanks to substantial growth in both student enrollment and tenure-track faculty positions, the College of Engineering completed a new ~100,000 sq. ft. engineering building in 2022.
