Position Summary:

The A-State College of Agriculture seeks a full-time, nine-month Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics in the area(s) of agribusiness, food marketing, and/or risk management

The tenure-track appointment has a starting date of August 2020 and will support the academic programs, scholarship, and service missions of the university. Faculty members are expected to deliver outstanding agribusiness instruction, develop a regionally and nationally recognized applied research program, and serve the community and university according to their professional expertise

The successful candidate will participate actively in undergraduate and graduate curriculum development, serve on graduate committees for both non-thesis and thesis students, and publish peer-reviewed research relevant to the region

Duties & Responsibilities:

The nine-month, tenure-track appointment is 75% teaching and 25% applied research focusing on agribusiness, food marketing, and/or risk management.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate agribusiness, marketing, and/or risk management courses at a 3/3 teaching load (3 courses each in fall and spring semesters). Participate in curriculum and course development, recruit and mentor students at graduate and undergraduate levels, advise student organizations, and provide service through college and university activities
  • Establish relationships with public and private organizations. Opportunities exist for collaboration with crop and livestock producers, agricultural input and credit suppliers, commodity handlers and food manufacturers, agribusiness trade associations, and government agencies
  • Develop applied research and outreach programs in agribusiness, food marketing, and/or risk management. Opportunities for collaboration outside the college exist with faculty in the A-State College of Business, the USDA-ARS Delta Water Management Research Unit, and the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture
  • Other duties as assigned

A-State, the flagship campus of the Arkansas State University System, is in Jonesboro, Arkansas located approximately 70 miles northwest of Memphis. Jonesboro is the educational, medical, industrial, and agricultural hub of northeast Arkansas. The region features extensive and intensive crop and animal production, and is the location of several food manufacturing facilities including Nestle, Frito-Lay, Post, and Butterball, among others. The A-State College of Agriculture has over 20 faculty and staff who serve a growing student body of more than 400 students

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The A-State College of Agriculture seeks an individual with an earned Ph.D. in agricultural economics, agribusiness, economics, finance, or a closely related field. A.B.D. applicants near degree completion will be considered
  • Applicants must have strong written and verbal communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with an aptitude for multidisciplinary research and collaboration
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated excellence, or potential for excellence, in undergraduate teaching and a commitment to applied research in agribusiness
  • Preference will be given to those with agribusiness, food marketing, and/or risk management expertise
