At Elon University we understand Intermedia as a conceptually driven art practice which activates the latent possibilities of time and substance. Intermedia pays tribute to the historical lineage of artistic techniques while remaining firmly committed to the possibilities of the present and the future alike. We seek a candidate who incorporates contemporary practices from a perspective of creative research, who embraces experimental investigations through a broad artistic view and whose work is fluid and post/transdisciplinary, defying established definitions. The candidate should demonstrate an array of skills with an aptitude to acquire more. Some skills may include kinetic and haptic forms, installation, video art, net-art, new media, conceptual art, performance art, game art, coding, 3-D modeling, amongst others. This position will be filled by someone whose work moves between dimensions, materials, skills, and techniques to lead our Intermedia program in a direction conversant with evolving contemporary methodologies and possibilities. Ultimately the person in this position will challenge tradition and embrace new forms of aesthetic thinking, while developing courses which emphasize artistic excellence, active learning, and socially engaged practices. The Art Department at Elon University offers access to a variety of both digital and analog tools which support cross disciplinary approaches and is looking to increase its adjacency to other schools, departments, and disciplines across the University.
