SUMMARY:
The Assistant Professor of Business – Computer Information Systems, a tenure-track faculty member of the Davis School of Business, teaches information systems courses primarily at the undergraduate level, but also potentially at the graduate level in the School’s MBA program. Colorado Mesa University (CMU) is a state-funded institution that emphasizes quality teaching and research, having embraced the teacher-scholar model. The Davis School of Business at CMU is currently seeking AACSB accreditation, and our initial self-evaluation report has been accepted.

  • CMU is a modern campus nestled in the Grand Valley in beautiful western Colorado, home of Colorado’s wine and fruit country (including the famous Palisade peaches), with close access to some of the best outdoor activities in the region including skiing, hiking, biking, river rafting and kayaking, and many other outdoor activities. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught on-line, hybrid, or via distance delivery modalities. Scholarship in teaching and learning or within the discipline, involvement with advising, and service to the school, the university, and the profession are expected and supported.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility (teaching, scholarship, service, and advising) satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities of the assistant professor position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:

A terminal degree (PhD or DBA) in information systems (CIS, MIS) or related field with significant coursework (at least 18 graduate credit hours) in information systems required; ABD may be considered with degree to be completed by December 31, 2022

Experience teaching college-level information systems courses (two years preferred)

Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching

Effective communication and organizational skills

Proven track record in scholarly activity is preferred, and future scholarly activity is expected

PREFERRED:

Ability to teach courses in a curriculum that follows the Computing Curriculum 2020 model for information systems by ACM and IEEE (e.g. networking, systems analysis and design, databases, enterprise systems)

Business industry experience strongly preferred given our hands-on, application-oriented approach in the classroom

Evidence of excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and advising

Working knowledge of Python or R

The ability to teach in the associated business analytics program (e.g. Introduction to Business Analytics, Quantitative Decision Making, or Big Data) or the cyber security certificate program (e.g. Introduction to Cyber Security, Introduction to Digital Forensics, Fundamentals of Cloud Security)
