Strategically located midway between Atlanta and Charlotte on the I-85 economic corridor, Clemson University is the land-grant university of South Carolina and, according to US News & World Report, ranks #27 among the country’s top national public universities. The College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and consists of six departments: Economics, Finance, Graphic Communications, Marketing, Management, and the School of Accountancy. It also houses Military Leadership, Aerospace Studies, and several Centers. The Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business has two campuses, the main campus in Clemson in which the college occupies a brand new building and a state of the art building in downtown Greenville (30 miles from Clemson) that houses our highly ranked MBA program, among other graduate programs . The college offers six undergraduate degree programs, five specialized master’s degrees, an MBA and two Ph. D. programs (Economics and Management). Undergraduate enrollment in the college is approximately 5,600 and graduate enrollment is approximately 800.

Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean Faculty Excellence will serve on the College Leadership Team and be responsible for strategic initiatives, planning and coordinating the implementation of the College of Business strategic plan, and providing leadership for the advancement of research and faculty excellence. As such, the Associate Dean will work closely with the Dean, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Chairs and Center Directors to implement and execute the College’s strategic vision, advance interdisciplinary research, grow external research funding, and promote faculty excellence. In addition, the Associate Dean will perform benchmarking and tracking of metrics using institutional and external data, provide oversight regarding accreditation (SACS and AACSB), and complete other tasks assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in business, economics or similar field with a record of proven leadership and one deserving of tenure, ideally at the rank of full professor, at an R1 institution, exceptional associates are also strongly encouraged to apply. Preferably, the candidate will have a minimum of two years of leadership experience (e.g., serving as an associate/assistant dean, managing an academic department, leading a significant academic program such as MBA). at a research university. The ideal candidate will also have experience with the recruitment, development, and retention of faculty and staff in order to develop and promote the College’s strategic vision and be able to effectively engage with the Chairs. In addition, candidates should have experience with grant processes, accreditation, and university strategic planning. Candidates must have the ability to lead groups comprising representatives of diverse academic programs and possess excellent problem-solving skills. Experience and involvement with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population is required. The ideal start date is August 2023.
