Department Summary
The University of North Texas (UNT) is strategically located in Denton, Texas which is 35 miles north of both Dallas and Fort Worth. There are over 42,000 students registered in 113 bachelors, 94 masters, and 36 doctoral degree programs. The DFW area has more than six million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts. UNT is a Carnegie tier one research university and is one of universities designated by the state as an “Emerging Research University.” Our hiring and expansion effort is an integral part of UNT’s commitment to bolster transformational, integrative research and to address complex scientific, technological, environmental, and societal problems through multidisciplinary collaboration and innovation. The UNT Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department is in the 550,000 square foot UNT College of Engineering Discovery Park building situated on 290 acres of land available for R&D enterprises. The College of Engineering was established in 2003 and currently houses five departments.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, Korean, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate faculty position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME). The ME Department is particularly interested in candidates with strengths in the areas that are directly related to the mission of the department. Candidates with experience in mechatronics (especially in UAS, controls, machine learning and artificial intelligence) are strongly encouraged to apply.
The candidate is expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program funded by extramural funding sources, collaborate with researchers within and outside the department, teach ME undergraduate and graduate courses, support and mentor graduate students, and provide service to the University and the profession.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or in a closely related field.
For the Assistant Professor position, a strong publication record and the potential to succeed in securing research funding and mentoring graduate students are required.
For the Associate Professor position, the requirements include a sustained record of scholarship and external research funding with active grant(s), successful mentoring of junior faculty, and recognized service activities.
