Georgia Gwinnett College invites applicants for an Assistant Professor faculty position in Environmental Science to start August 1, 2022 in the areas of soil science, agronomy, and/or sustainable agriculture. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of introductory and upper-level Environmental Science and Biology courses, and to develop and oversee the GGC MicroFarm, an on-campus garden and orchard space, for teaching, research, and community engagement. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, student engagement and research, as well as service to the college and community. GGC is an institution that values innovative teaching, advising, and mentoring (advising and mentoring is expected of all faculty). The Environmental Science program is interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for all students regardless of background. The candidate may be expected to perform additional duties, as assigned.

In accordance with Board of Regents Policy governing GGC faculty, successful applicants will be eligible to receive three or five year renewable appointments or one year traditional appointments may also be approved. For more information about our college, please visit our website at www.ggc.edu.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: Qualified applicants will have a doctoral degree (PhD) in Environmental Science, Biology, Agronomy, or similar field with the ability to teach courses in the applicant’s area of expertise. Candidates should have the degree in hand prior to the position start date.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in applied soil science, development of campus gardens or farms, urban agriculture, and/or sustainable development is preferred. This position will involve cooperation with various campus and community entities that utilize the GGC MicroFarm, so preference will be given to highly collaborative candidates.

Position requires local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.

Position may require non-standard work hours (nights and weekends).
