Responsibilities: Mercer University School of Medicine is seeking a qualified Forensic/Autopsy Pathologist at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will perform medico-legal death investigation under the provisions of the Georgia Death Investigation Act. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review of investigative reports to determine jurisdiction
  • Determine need and extent of post mortem examinations
  • Direction of assistants in preparing bodies for autopsy including photography documentation when necessary
  • Autopsy performance (external and internal examinations) with appropriate specimen collection for laboratory analysis
  • Perform microscopic analysis as appropriate
  • Determine cause and manner of death
  • Generate reports in a timely and efficient manner
  • Review current medical literature as needed to formulate expert opinions
  • Consult with law enforcement, attorneys, medical professionals, and coroners
  • Provide expert courtroom and deposition testimony in judicial proceedings
  • Teaching of medical students, residents, and law enforcement personnel
  • May perform other duties as directed by the Chief Medical Examiner

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • MD from an accredited school of medicine
  • Georgia Medical License (or eligible)
  • Board certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • Forensic Pathology Board certification or eligible (candidate is expected to obtain Forensic certification within one year of hire)
  • Valid driver’s license

Background Check: Selection of the final candidate is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Pay Rate: Commensurate with experience
