The BA in English and Communications Program at the American University of Armenia (AUA) (http://aua.am/ba-english-and-communications/) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Literary Studies, starting in July 2025. This position is open at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Faculty members at AUA are expected to teach three courses per semester, engage in program development and university service, and pursue an active research agenda.

Responsibilities
- Teach core courses in our program, including literature and writing courses.
- Contribute to curricular and programmatic developments.
- Engage actively in research that contributes to the fields of Literary Studies, Comparative Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, and/or Writing Studies.
- Mentor students in their academic and professional development.
- Participate in program, college, and university service activities.
- Explore opportunities to teach general education courses or contribute to one of AUA’s minor programs, such as Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, or Genocide Studies and Human Rights.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in teaching and research within the field of English-language Literature. We welcome scholars specializing in American, British, or Anglophone literatures from any historical period. Candidates with expertise in Comparative Literature (taught in English translations) will also be considered. Candidates must hold a PhD in English, Comparative Literature, or a closely related discipline. Applicants at the assistant professor level should have some teaching experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications. Candidates applying for the associate professor rank should demonstrate substantial teaching experience alongside an extensive portfolio of peer-reviewed work.
The English and Communications Program at AUA aims to equip students with the diverse literacies necessary to analyze complex problems and produce innovative creative work in the mid-21st century. Our graduates frequently gain admission to prestigious graduate programs at institutions such as Harvard, Columbia University, University College London, Sciences Po, and the Sorbonne. We seek candidates capable of teaching foundational courses, including surveys of American and British Literature, as well as upper-division electives in literature or related topics. There may also be opportunities to teach general education courses or contribute to AUA’s minor programs, such as Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, or Genocide Studies and Human Rights.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching non-native English speakers and/or conducting academic work in an international context. Additional information
Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with the university-wide pay scale and will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
AUA offers an extensive benefits package to international hires, including a housing allowance and an international travel allowance.
