Job description
The International Studies Program in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa is searching for a half-time, renewable lecturer in International Studies, beginning in August 2023. The initial appointment will be for a three year term beginning academic year 2023-2024 through academic year 2025-2026, with a possible re-appointment thereafter in up to three-year increments, pending college approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester (at least a minimum of 12 s.h. per year) and assisting the International Studies Program Director with program development including organizing extracurricular activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in International Education or Cultural Foundations of Education.
- Native or near-native fluency in English and an additional International Language
- Experience in teaching International Studies at the college/university level in the U.S. The successful candidate must be able to teach at all levels, including Introduction to International studies and advanced level undergraduate courses.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in public engagement related to International/Foreign Relations
- Experience in global education, including teaching outside of the United States
- Active engagement with community organizations related to International Education
- Experience working with immigrant and refugee populations, preferably in the U.S. Midwest
- Experience in coordinating a multi-section course and managing teaching assistants
- Ability to effectively collaborate with others
- Experience in organizing cultural events and willingness to organize/attend evening events.
- Experience in curriculum development
