Position: Part-Time Lecturer in HEALTH SCIENCE
Effective Date: Spring Semester: January 19, 2020 – May 21, 2021
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master of Public Health, or Master’s degree in Health or closely related field with a background in public Health
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the University level appropriate to assignment
  • Experience with using online platforms such as BeachBoard

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (Ph. D, or Dr.PH, Ed.D, MD, D.O., or D.Sc) in health or related field (including program tracks related to Community Health, or a closely-related discipline) from an accredited school
  • Demonstrated potential effectiveness and excellence for teaching/training students, or health/medical professionals.

Lecturers will teach one or some of the following courses:

  • HSC 402. Applied Concepts of Community Health Education (3) Identification and application of concepts unique to community health education; includes examination of theoretical foundations, marketing and promotion techniques, and application of health education strategies. Instruction Mode: Synchronous Online – Meet Times (Tu/Th mornings 4:00-6:45 pm)
  • HSC 402. Applied Concepts of Community Health Education (3 units)
  • Identification and application of concepts unique to community health education; includes examination of theoretical foundations, marketing and promotion techniques, and application of health education strategies. Instruction Mode: Synchronous Online – Meet Times (Tu/Th mornings 9:30-10:45am or Mondays 12:30-1:45 pm)
  • HSC 423. Consumer Health (3 units)
  • Effective selection of health information, products and services; medical quackery and fraudulent health practices; laws and agencies protecting the consumer; health care delivery systems; and influences of corporate control on the consumer movement in contemporary society. (Instruction Mode: Asynchronous Online)
  • HSC 440. Applied Concepts of Health Science (3 units)
  • Identification and application of the concepts and modes of inquiry unique to the discipline of health science; development of appropriate curriculum based upon an analysis of individual, school and community needs and interests. Instruction Mode: Synchronous Online – Meet Times (Wednesdays evening 7-9:45 pm)
  • H SC 411B – Health Science for Secondary Teachers (3 units) Contemporary teaching of health education in secondary schools; emphasizes coordinated school health, integrating health content and instruction into other subjects, drugs, sexuality, nutrition, child abuse, violence, community and human ecology. Based upon California Health Framework, meets state credential requirements. (Th 4-6:45 pm)

Duties: Teach any of the listed courses (3 – 15 units) as needed
