Specifically, this post will lead our Data Science Research Centre, one of the University’s major outward facing research centers pioneering ways to manage, process, analyse and obtain intelligence from data for maximum impact. Our Centre is distinctive in that it has a physical – rather than a virtual – presence. Based in the University’s new STEM Centre, it features high-performance computing facilities and a state-of-the-art Data Visualisation Laboratory. It is a hub where students, researchers and industry partners can use advanced immersive visualisation technologies and interact with big data sets.

The Head of the Data Science Research Centre (DSRC) has overall responsibility for the success of this research centre which sits within the School of Electronics, Computing & Maths. They will work closely with the Head of School and other members of the School leadership team, contributing to the wider development and success of the College to ensure that corporate and strategic aims are met.

The role holder will take a leading role in developing the research strategy for the DSRC, ensuring it continues to enhance its reputation both nationally and internationally. They will have responsibility for line management of staff within the DSRC and for maximising the people potential and engagement across the range of research, knowledge exchange and other academic activities undertaken in the centre. As a member of the University’s professoriate, they will lead by example, playing a pivotal role in the development of high profile, lasting research and innovation relationships / projects.
