Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus.

The Department of Sociology/Anthropology at OWU is looking for Part-time Instructors for the 2023-24 academic year. Applicants can apply to teach Changing Cultures, Changing Societies, or any of the 4 courses that we are offering in 2023-24:

  • SOAN 260: Changing Cultures, Changing Societies (Fall 2023)
  • SOAN 349: Gender and the Body (Fall 2023)
  • 1 of 2 upper-level electives (Spring 2024) in the applicant’s area of expertise that expands the courses currently offered by the department. Examples could include but are not limited to: Society & the Environment; Sex, Drugs, & HIV; Love, Emotions, & Relationships; Societies & Cultures of the Middle East; and more. The pay is $5,000 per course. Successful applicants will be offered a one-year contract to teach between 1-4 of the above courses, with possibility of renewal after the first year.

At Ohio Wesleyan, a residential liberal arts institution, all classes are taught in an in-person, face-to-face setting. We do not offer online courses during spring and fall semesters.

The ideal candidate will have at least a Master’s degree completed in Sociology, Anthropology, or a related field, and teaching experience at the college level.

  • have access to optional faculty development opportunities outside the department;
  • have your own office space for use when you’re on campus; and,
  • receive a free parking pass that allows you to park anywhere on campus.
