$8175 per each 4 or 5 unit course


The Department of Music at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for quarterly adjunct lecturers (non-tenure track) to teach undergraduate courses in the following departmental core areas: survey and elective courses in Western and Global Music History; courses in the Music Theory Sequence and courses in Electronic Music; Group classes in Beginning Guitar, Voice and Piano, and beginner level courses including film music composition, songwriting, hip-hop production, video game music, and Digital Audio Workstations (DAW). Specific assignments will be made according to the academic qualifications of the individual and programmatic need. Santa Clara University is on a 10-week quarter system with an 11th week for final examinations. This is an applicant pool and hiring is based upon need. The successful candidate will teach no more than 2 courses in any one (1) quarter and no more than four courses for any one (1) academic year.

Basic Qualifications:

1. Terminal degree (Doctorate) in Music or a closely related field. Applicants who are ABD or possess a Master’s degree, accompanied by commensurate experience in teaching, will be considered.

2. Demonstrated excellence in teaching Music at the college level.

3. Excellent communication skills.

4. Ability to work well with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Demonstration of inclusive pedagogical practices that advance SCU goals of diversity and equity,

2. Demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.

Responsibilities: Teaching (100%)

Teaching duties include but are not limited to:

Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with the assigned courses, including:

a. Teaching a course load of no more than two (2) courses per quarter, and no more than four (4) courses per academic year;

b. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively;

c. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students;

d. Holding regular weekly office hours on campus;

e. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;

f. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses;

g. Where applicable, teaching from an approved syllabus for the University Core courses assigned or working with the Chair to design an appropriate syllabus for submission for approval from the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee.
