Position Overview:

Upward Bound Math Science Instructors are responsible for providing instruction to college-bound high school students in specific tops/content areas during the on-campus six-week summer session (M-W June 6-July 13, 2022). Currently needed subjects: Foreign Language, Math, English Composition, English Literature, and Reading. The instructor will develop curriculum materials and implement a course of instruction in the specialty area which provides students with the opportunity to enhance their academic skills necessary to successfully complete high school, matriculate through a post-secondary institution and graduate.

**Please Note** This is a temporary, part- time position.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Prepare a syllabus, curriculum, activities/assignments, and assessments for subject areas. Prepare for and meet classes as assigned and maintain a safe learning environment. Participate in in-service training sessions as scheduled. Evaluate and prepare reports of ongoing student progress. Complete student assessment forms Request and assist in maintaining department equipment, supplies, and materials. Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices to provide injury and illness prevention for self and others. Participate in end-of-program achievement awards reception. Assume other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Scope & Impact: This position is an entry level professional position, with actions that may have a measurable impact on operations within a work group.

Communication & Interaction: Routinely answers questions and provides information and data requested by individuals within or outside of work area. Questions that require interpretation or are not easily resolved are referred to Supervisor.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates ability to execute tasks according to standard operating procedures and/or direction. Demonstrates ability to learn new subject matter, coupled with attention to detail and responsiveness to feedback.

Problem Solving & Judgement: Performs a variety of duties following established policies and procedures. Resolves problems by selecting from approved alternatives based on past practices, established procedures, or direction. Relies on direct supervision is available to set priorities and objectives, and to assist in problem resolution.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by assisting with identification of operational needs and requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for executing routine procedures with direction from senior staff.

Reporting Relationships: Generally, reports to manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Qualifications Required:

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Education or subject area, at least one (1) year of teaching experience at the high school level or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications Preferred:

Previous TRIO experience. Knowledge of best practices in teaching. Ability to develop and deliver engaging lesson plans to high school students preparing for college Experience with inquiry-based hands-on learning experiences. Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds. Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population. Bilingual (Spanish) highly preferred.
