The Humanities Institute (HI) at The Pennsylvania State University seeks Visiting Research Professors to begin in the fall of the 2021-22 academic year. The mission of the Institute is to support research and teaching in the humanities in a collaborative spirit and in so doing underscore the social value of humanities work. This position is part of the Humanities in the World initiative which created the availability of Visiting Research Professors at the Institute beginning in the 2019-20 Academic year and continuing into the future.

Applications can be for any time period from three weeks to a full year, beginning in Fall 2021.

Support for Visitors will include partial salary replacement, office space and research support, and integration into a community of scholars who value collaboration and interdisciplinary scholarship.

From agricultural college to world-class learning community -- the story of The Pennsylvania State University is one of an expanding mission of teaching, research, and public service. But that mission was not so grandly conceived in 1855, when the Commonwealth chartered the school at the request of the Pennsylvania State Agricultural Society. The goal was to apply scientific principles to farming, a radical departure from the traditional curriculum grounded in mathematics, rhetoric, and classical languages.
