Columbia College invites applications for the position of Chair and Program Director for the Criminal Justice Programs. The ideal candidate will possess an earned doctorate in Criminal Justice (Juris Doctorate accepted) and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in academia. This full-time faculty role (9-month, tenure eligible) reports directly to the Dean. The position entails providing visionary leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Criminal Justice programs, including the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science (in-person and online), and Master of Science (online).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leadership and Supervision

  • Articulates and communicates a clear vision, priorities, and goals for the Criminal Justice programs.
  • Represents the interests of the Criminal Justice programs in relevant local, national, and international settings.
  • Mentors and supervises faculty and staff associated with the Criminal Justice Programs.

Student Support and Experience

  • Remains informed about contemporary challenges and opportunities facing undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Student Engagement to enhance student recruitment, retention, persistence, advising, and alumni engagement.
  • Initiates and participates in development activities to enhance scholarship opportunities for Criminal Justice students.

Strategic Planning and Program Development

  • Leads the implementation of new initiatives and programs related to Criminal Justice.
  • Develops strategic plans aligned with program goals and the broader objectives of the Division of Social Sciences.

Personnel and Resource Procurement and Oversight

  • Assists the Dean with budget preparation and for the Criminal Justice programs.
  • Recruits, supports, and evaluates faculty and adjunct instructors within the programs.
  • Participates in personnel reviews and assessment processes.

Quality Control and Reporting

  • Establishes and leads quality assurance processes to ensure adherence to accreditation standards and college policies.
  • Provides performance evaluations and other reporting for the Criminal Justice programs.
  • Participates as a member of the college committees, including Admissions, Advising, Student Concerns, and Curriculum Committees.
  • Engages in research, teaching, and service activities as developed in consultation with the Dean.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice or a related field (Juris Doctorate acceptable).
  • Proven record of accomplishment consistent with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • Two (2) years of administrative or management experience, or a history of progressively responsible administrative/leadership experience.
  • Strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion across curriculum and institutional processes.
  • May be required to work additional hours during the academic year which may include early/late hours or occasional weekends.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams, and other related software programs.
