Effective immediately: Full-time, Assistant Director, Academic Affairs, School of Law – Wilmington University.

Summary: The Wilmington University School of Law is seeking a dedicated professional to support Juris Doctor students through academic advising, registration guidance, and degree completion. Responsibilities include monitoring academic performance, coordinating student outreach, and collaborating with university offices to ensure academic accommodation. This role also supports the administration of law school exams, collects academic data, and assists with student programming and major events. The ideal candidate will ensure FERPA compliance and foster a supportive, inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. The ideal must have 3 to 5 years of relevant full-time employment in academic advising and/or student services. Must have excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Key qualifications include demonstrated leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and project management experience. The candidate must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—including Word, Excel (with mail merge and pivot tables), and PowerPoint—is required. Familiarity with FERPA regulations and academic advising best practices is essential. The candidate must be self-motivated, able to make independent decisions, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Possesses strong written and verbal communication. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a service-oriented environment with competing demands. Must demonstrate respect for all in the workplace and a commitment to creating a supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. Must maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all situations.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Support students in their journey through academic advising, providing guidance and support for individual registration adjustments and ensuring completion of all degree requirements.
  • Monitor academic performance metrics and coordinate outreach and support to identified students and the general student body in areas of academic support and study skills. This can include presentations given by the person or coordinated with other individuals.
  • Coordinates and communicates the services of central university offices, with specific engagement of Accessibility Services. This directly ensures students know and navigate the processes for obtaining accommodations to support their academic success.
  • Serve as primary support for the implementation and administration of law school exams, directly impacting the mission of providing students with significant practice in bar-style questions throughout the curriculum.
  • Collect academic data points of interest, such as class attendance, and evaluate student engagement and participation in academic classes and the Excellence in Lawyering and Leadership Program.
  • Assist in general student programming needs of the law school, including major events such as orientation, student organization programming, and commencement.
  • Ensure compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Promote and foster a supportive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties which may be assigned by the Dean of the School of Law.

Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday–Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., depending on the needs of the department(s) and/or the University. The role will require both daytime and evening hours as necessary to support departmental operations. During academic terms, student services are available until 6:00 p.m., and final exam administration may extend as late as 9:15 p.m.
