The Department of Kinesiology at The University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, starting in late August, 2020, specializing in examining relationships between cognition and physical activity and health behavior.

The Kinesiology department is located within the recently formed College of Health Sciences, which is part of the University’s Academic Health Collaborative ( and the Institute for Integrated Health and Innovation ( In addition, the College values interdisciplinary research efforts and the College and Department align with the URI Ryan Institute for Neuroscience (, therefore candidates with an interest in brain function, structure, or cognition would align with the departments emerging presence in neuroscience ( The College and University also have a growing interest in offering courses through an online format.

The successful candidate will have the ability to: a) establish a line of research examining the physiological mechanisms or brain/cognition as it relates to physical activity, health behaviors and behavior change; b) teach in the undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) exercise science program; c) advise students, d) participate in service activities at the university, college, and department levels along with service to the profession, and e) collaborate with other researchers in the Department of Kinesiology and across the university.
