Position Summary:

The Assistant Professor of Nursing facilitates student learning in the classroom and clinical setting. The
applicant must be able to perform the essential duties as described below. Teaching assignments are based
on expertise and availability. This position is a full-time position. Academic experience preferred in the
areas of medical/surgical and/or ICU with additional experience in Family/Child Nursing or Mental
Health Nursing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and clinical expertise in teaching assigned nursing courses (clinical and didactic).
  • Collaboratively works with faculty, students, and staff in facilities to assure positive clinical learning experiences for student nurses.
  • Provides student advisement, holds weekly office hours, and counsels student advisees as needed.
  • Assumes leadership roles with faculty in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising curriculum.
  • Communicate with Chief Academic Nursing Officer and colleagues regarding student issues and progression in the program.
  • Seeks leadership roles within the program and University committees.
  • Participates in discussions for program growth and progression.
  • Attends recruitment events and participates in faculty and student retention efforts.
  • Managing the instructional activities and supporting faculty, staff, and students in the delivery of these Nursing Programs/Tracks.
  • Advising and collaborating with faculty and students to resolve course, clinical and program concerns; updating Nursing Department Chair about these issues.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting evaluation data in a meaningful manner; and storing all data in official Department of Nursing files.
  • Leadership of faculty teaching in the program.
  • Collaboration with the Nursing Faculty in making program revisions based on evaluation data, accreditation standards, and current nursing education, practice, and research trends.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of accreditation standards and current trends in nursing education, practice, and research and sharing it with faculty in a timely manner.
  • Working with the Nursing Department Chair, other Directors and specialty track leaders to ensure coordination of designated program courses, curricular matters, and strategies for meeting student needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and
procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students,
faculty/staff, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Understanding of and ability to compute basic statistical procedures.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to interpret complex instructions. Ability to deal with abstract problems involving multiple
variables and make decisions under conditions of ambiguity.

Minimum Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Earned Master of Science in Nursing and Doctoral degree preferred. Will consider applicant in a Doctoral
program or MSN prepared applicant willing to enter a Doctoral program. Current Arkansas registered
nurse license, and two years of experience in online education preferred. Nationally certified as a Family
Nurse Practitioner and maintain certification with at least five years’ experience in the role.
