Description

The Dean of Business and Digital Transformation & Technology serves as the academic and strategic leader for Jackson College’s Business division which includes but is not limited to, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Public Administration, Entrepreneurship, International Business, and Corrections Education. The Dean is responsible for the vision, quality, and effectiveness of all programs under this division, with Business serving as the anchor for student enrollment, employer engagement, and innovative program development.

This position plays a central role in aligning academic programming with workforce needs and digital innovation trends, supporting both traditional business education and emerging fields such as cybersecurity, cloud computing, and software development. In addition, this Dean will lead the development and oversight of Jackson College’s Corrections Education Program, ensuring it aligns with institutional and workforce priorities.

The Dean collaborates closely with a designated Administrative Program Director, faculty, and external partners to ensure cohesive delivery of high-quality, accessible programming that serves diverse learners in both community and correctional settings.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Academic Leadership and Strategic Vision

  • Serve as a member of the Chief Academic Officer’s Academic Leadership Team (ALT), contributing to college-wide strategic planning and innovation.
  • Provide direction and leadership to all business and digital technology programs, including Accounting, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Public Administration & Management (PAM), and emerging technology fields.
  • Oversee the strategic development of the Corrections Education Program, including program design, faculty staffing, and employer-aligned pathways.
  • Supervise faculty and the division’s Administrative Program Director, fostering a collaborative leadership model.
  • Promote an inclusive academic culture that values diverse perspectives, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Supervision of committees & task forces as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Attend regular professional development through reading, state affinity group participation, and national conferences so as to ensure currency and future view.
  • Assist in the development of the College’s Strategic Agenda, ensuring the attention to and delivery of assigned areas.
  • Provide leadership on other institutional committees as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer and/or President.
  • Participate in the development, execution and regular evaluation of the Department’s Academic Master Plan.

Program Development and Workforce Alignment

  • Develop, evaluate, and revise programs based on labor market data, industry input, and transfer trends.
  • Lead the development of stackable credentials, micro credentials, and competency-based models that prepare students for immediate employment and long-term career growth.
  • Support implementation of apprenticeship and work-based learning models that connect business and digital transformation to local and statewide workforce priorities.
  • Ensure programs align with transfer pathways, industry certifications, and accreditation standards where applicable.

Faculty Support and Innovation

  • Collaboration with the Human Resources Department to recruit, select, and mentor a diverse and highly qualified faculty, supporting their professional growth and development.
  • Facilitate professional development and in-service training, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and adaptation to new educational paradigms.
  • Lead efforts in faculty evaluation, promotion, and retention, ensuring alignment with the college’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Ensure the guidance and development of new faculty in their advancement to continuing contract status.
  • Understand and follow the faculty union contract requirements.
  • Ensure the annual development and completion of Academic Performance Review Process documents and review, making adjustments and improvements as need.
  • Encourage innovation by promoting research, experimentation, and the adoption of new technologies and methodologies in teaching and learning.
  • Implement robust quality assurance processes to maintain high academic standards and compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Stay informed of national and global educational trends and best practices, guiding the Arts and Sciences division in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Understand and fully deploy all requirements of the College’s regional accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission.

Corrections Education Oversight

  • Coordinate with the Michigan Department of Corrections(MDOC) to ensure and guide the development and implementation of academic programming in corrections settings.
  • Ensure alignment with facility requirements, instructional accessibility, and equitable student outcomes.
  • Coordinate closely with the Administrative Program Director to ensure program integrity and instructional quality.
  • Responsible for understanding that this position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position. You must complete the annual Clery Act training, for and act as, a Campus Security Authority.

Student Success

  • Advance student access, retention, completion, and transfer within all Business and Technology pathways.
  • Work collaboratively across divisions to support students in all learning environments, including incarcerated students.
  • Collaborate with administration, faculty and staff to enhance student learning outcomes, retention, and success through personalized and adaptive learning strategies.
  • Address student concerns and complaints, fostering a supportive and responsive academic environment.
  • Fully partner with the Chief Student Services Officer to ensure alignment of work.
  • Engage with students to understand their needs and aspirations, ensuring the Arts and Sciences programs remain student-centered.
  • Fully partner with the Institutional Research and Effectiveness Department (IRE) to ensure the advancement of instructional program effectiveness and undifferentiated student outcomes.
  • Lead efforts to advance student outcomes directly and through collaborative engagement with department faculty, aligning instructional practices, curriculum, and program goals with institutional metrics for student success and workforce relevance.

Industry and Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with employers, advisory boards, and economic development organizations.
  • Lead Business & Industry Leadership Teams (BILT) and support cross-sector collaborations that enhance workforce and entrepreneurship initiatives.
  • Promote the visibility of Jackson College’s business and tech programs in the community and among industry partners.
  • Represent Jackson College to external stakeholders, including other colleges, universities, civic organizations, and industry partners, building strong collaborative relationships.
  • Drive community engagement initiatives that align academic programs with local and regional needs, enhancing the college’s role in community development and workforce readiness in partnership with other College departments.

Resource Management and Sustainability:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the Business and Digital Transformation & Technologies division, ensuring efficient, engagement of all department faculty, and effective use of resources.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives within the division, incorporating sustainable practices into academic programs and operations.
  • Lead a sustainability plan for full-time and adjunct faculty to ensure a sufficient resource and bench strength for ensuring that all classes are filled each semester.
  • Oversee the strategic planning and market analysis for academic offerings, in partnership with the College’ Marketing and Public Relations Department, ensuring programs are current, marketable, and aligned with future workforce demands.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:Required Education and Experience:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) required
  • Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience in business, technology, or related fields in higher education
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive administrative or leadership experience, preferably within academic or workforce education settings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in a business-related field or education leadership
  • Experience working with or developing Corrections Education Programs
  • Background that includes experience in multiple areas such as Entrepreneurship, Public Administration, Workforce Development, and Digital Transformation
  • Demonstrated success building partnerships with employers and transfer institutions
  • Knowledge of competency-based education, micro credentialing, and/or hybrid instructional design
