Position Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy (physics.cofc.edu) at the College of Charleston has an opening for one or more Visiting Assistant Professor positions for the 2023-24 academic year. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field and must be able to accept legal employment in the United States by August 15, 2023. The teaching load is 12 contact hours per week through a combination of lectures and labs. In addition to teaching introductory astronomy and/or physics courses, ideal candidates would be able to teach an upper-level observational astronomy course and/or mentor undergraduate student research projects in astronomy or astrophysics. Candidates uncomfortable teaching observational astronomy but with a strong astronomy/astrophysics teaching background are still encouraged to apply.
