Consistent with our grounding in the liberal arts and sciences, candidates with interdisciplinary expertise are particularly desirable. Our faculty teach a five-course load, including courses at all levels of the chemistry curriculum, contribute to the college-wide first-year seminar program, and are expected to establish a vibrant research program that engages our talented undergraduate students. Teaching assignments are based on the needs of the department and the expertise of the faculty. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body is an important characteristic of a successful candidate.

Our department is committed to creating an equitable and supportive environment where scholars from all backgrounds can thrive and contribute to a vibrant intellectual community. To achieve this goal, we provide comprehensive resources to support our scholars. Your research is supported with dedicated research space, access to a shared instrument suite, competitive startup funding, and a skilled sponsored research office. In addition to these research-focused resources, we also prioritize faculty development. Dickinson’s Center for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship provides robust support for faculty through professional development opportunities including workshops, mentorship programs, and faculty learning communities.
