Position Summary
The Avila University School of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, guided by our mission of excellence in teaching and learning, and dedicated to the service to the Dear Neighbor, is actively seeking a full-time Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Psychology that can teach in the undergraduate and graduate (Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology) programs.
Responsibilities:
- Teach a minimum of 12 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester.
- Teaching and instruction: at least two graduate courses per semester (e.g., orientation to counseling, counseling theories, practicum/internship), with additional teaching responsibilities in the undergraduate program (e.g., orientation to the major, practicum courses, senior seminar, general psychology).
- Curriculum and Program Development: Contribute to the design and enhancement of the psychology curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Student Support and Mentorship: Provide guidance, training, and support to students, including mentorship on academic matters, career paths, and research opportunities. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment conducive to students’ intellectual growth and critical thinking.
- Provide service to the program, school, college, university and community.
- Deliver content using effective methods that are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
- Use Canvas Learning Management System as part of course delivery.
- Perform other duties as needed related to assigned courses.
- Work collaboratively with School colleagues, the Chair of Psychology, and faculty at Avila University to improve programming, culture, teaching, and access to education.
- Engage in scholarly and professional activities.
Qualifications:
- The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology or a related field and have some experience teaching in higher education.
- Licensed or license eligible in Missouri or Kansas (e.g., licensed psychologist, licensed professional counselor).
- Successful candidates should highlight their experience and be committed to contributing to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, and contributes to equity and social justice through teaching, committee work, and/or scholarship.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
