Assistant/Associate Professor of Finance
The E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the assistant/associate professor level in the Department of Finance and Economics beginning Fall 2026. To be considered, candidates should possess a Ph.D. in finance from an AACSB-accredited program with a specialization supportive of one or more of the finance degree tracks (wealth management, banking and consumer finance, or corporate finance). The department also offers a major and minor in commercial and investment real estate, as well as a certificate in financial planning. Typically, the successful candidate will demonstrate interest and/or experience in teaching in at least two of the department’s three areas of specialization-wealth management, banking and consumer finance, or corporate finance – with added value placed on expertise in banking.
Applicants who are A.B.D. candidates with a clear plan for degree completion by July 2026 may be considered (candidates who are ABD – please ensure you document the timeline of defending your dissertation in your application). A candidate with a completed Ph.D. must have a recent and consistent record of publication in quality refereed journals. The Department of Finance and Economics also values candidates with industry experience and a commitment to community engagement. Candidates holding professional certifications (CFA®, CFP®, etc.) are preferred. The ideal candidate would also have a track record of community engagement that can create value for the department and for student learning experiences.
The teaching load is three courses per academic semester, and may include face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online deliveries. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in research and scholarship, resulting in high-quality publications. The Wall College of Business has a WRDS platform with access to CRSP, Compustat, Bloomberg, and Datastream to support quality scholarship and teaching. The position also requires service activities, including undergraduate student advising, contributing to assessment of student learning outcomes, and other service to the college, university, community and profession. It is expected that the individual chosen for this position will possess a commitment to teaching excellence, demonstrated ability or capacity to produce quality scholarly academic research, a commitment to involvement in service to the university and the profession, excellent communication skills, and effective teamwork skills.
Accredited by AACSB International, the Wall College of Business serves more than 3000 graduate and undergraduate students. The college offers undergraduate majors in seven disciplines (Accounting, Commercial and Investment Real Estate, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Hospitality, Resort and Tourism Management), as well as MBA and MAcc graduate programs. The Department of Finance and Economics houses majors in both disciplines, along with a Commercial and Investment Real Estate major. The finance major offers a choice of three concentrations: wealth management; banking and consumer finance; and corporate finance. Capstone courses in all three concentrations make use of simulations with the Student Managed Investment Fund embedded in the wealth management capstone. Enrollment in the finance degree has experienced a significant increase in the recent past and is approaching approximately 600 students. The department also has minors in economics, commercial and investment real estate, and actuarial science and risk management along with a certificate in financial planning (CFP® Board Registered Program). Additional information about the College and the University and its programs can be obtained by accessing the university’s website (http://www.coastal.edu).
