The University of Montevallo invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Counseling position specializing in Couples & Family Counseling. This faculty member will contribute to our CACREP-accredited program by teaching, supervising, conducting research, and engaging in service to the university and profession.
- Teach graduate-level courses in core CACREP and Couples & Family Counseling specialization areas.
- Provide academic advising to graduate students.
- Supervise graduate student field placements (practicum/internship).
- Maintain an independent research agenda, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and seek external funding.
- Engage in professional counseling organizations and demonstrate active professional identity (e.g., ACA, AAMFT, ALCA).
- Actively recruit graduate students and contribute to program growth.
- Serve on university, college, and department committees and contribute to the broader counseling community.
- Doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program (or related doctoral degree with one full-time faculty year before July 1, 2013).
- University-level teaching experience in counseling.
- Education and clinical experience in Couples & Family Counseling.
- Active professional engagement, including at least two of the following:
- Professional development in Couples & Family Counseling.
- Professional service/advocacy in Couples & Family Counseling.
- Ongoing clinical practice.
- Research/scholarly activity in Couples & Family Counseling.
- Professional counseling identity demonstrated through:
- Membership in national and state counseling organizations (e.g., ACA, AAMFT, ALCA).
- Relevant professional credentials (e.g., NCC, LPC, LMFT).
Established research agenda in counselor education.
Experience in securing external funding for academic research.
Demonstrated leadership in graduate counseling education.
- Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure in Alabama within 18 months of hire as one of the following:
- Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) OR dual-licensed as both an LMFT and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
- If holding only an LPC, the candidate must have significant clinical experience in Couples & Family Counseling.
- Marriage & Family Associate/Intern leading to LMFT licensure in Alabama is also acceptable.
