Position Overview:

The Dean of Faculty serves as the Chief Academic Officer for a Campus and is an innovative leader with a strong internal focus including academic leadership development, high quality and relevant academic programs, and promotion of effective pedagogies and practices to enhance student success. The position serves as the key advocate for effective teaching and learning, collaborative and innovative strategic enrollment management, and maintains a focus on learning outcomes assessments. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

What you will be doing:

  • Oversees strategic planning for academic affairs on the campus and in assigned coordination of college-wide academic disciplines; establishes a culture of academic excellence and innovation; establishes key performance indicators for student success; ensures alignment with college-wide priorities
  • Actively collaborates with other Deans and appropriate district and campus personnel to develop and implement strategic enrollment management initiatives; assumes shared responsibility for meeting or exceeding performance targets for student recruitment, enrollment, completion, and transfer or job placement
  • Leads the development of strategic course scheduling, innovation in program and course development and the faculty assignment process; ensures that course schedules meet student needs and productivity expectations
  • Secures external funding to support educational initiatives and instructional enhancements; manages fiscal resources effectively
  • Fosters a collaborative academic environment supportive of the College mission and vision, student centered services, and teaching excellence
  • Leads the continuous development, review and revision of academic curricula and close out as appropriate; promotes and models use of assessment results to assure quality and relevancy
  • Oversees recruitment, selection, hiring, performance reviews and supervises department chairs, directors, and other assigned personnel
  • Oversees faculty advancement and in collaboration with the Deans of Academic Schools, ensures professional development for full-time and adjunct faculty and instructional support personnel to continuously increase teaching and learning success
  • Develops classroom resources for adjunct faculty in conjunction with the Deans of Academic Schools, Department Chairs and full time faculty
  • Supports and provides guidance in the collective bargaining process; maintains ongoing effective communication with faculty representatives and ensures adherence to relevant areas of any collective bargaining agreement
  • Oversees mediation and/or resolution of faculty and student issues, grievances, and appeals, in collaboration with Deans of Academic Schools
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with local K-12 schools, colleges and universities, businesses, and community-based organizations to promote and benefit enrollment and academic programming
  • Monitors ongoing compliance with state, regional and specialized accreditation standards
  • Coordinates assigned college-wide disciplines including annual effectiveness reports, discipline action plans, accreditation reports, grant reports and strategic enrollment management plans, in consultation with the members of the College’s executive leadership team to facilitate alignment with college-wide priorities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What you need to succeed:

  • Doctorate in Education or related discipline and six (6) years of senior level experience in higher education orequivalent managerial skills and possess demonstrated leadership and creative accomplishments in an administrative role at an institution of higher learning
