College Business Hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm. However, this is an exempt position that may require work outside of typical business hours.

Working Conditions

Most of the work is conducted in a typical indoor office environment. Periods of work in a classroom and supervising in a clinical setting. Travel will be required to other Nursing education sites, conferences, etc.

Physical Duties

Most of the work is sedentary. There could be periods of light – medium work, when supervising in the classroom or clinical site. Other physical requirements include: • Oral and written communication, the ability to receive, understand and communicate verbal and written instruction and communicate in the English language • Visual acuity appropriate for a normal clerical-type position • Hearing • Mental Acuity • Fingering • Grasping • Speaking • Talking • Repetitive Motion

Essential Functions
This position will provide leadership in teaching excellence, supervision, and mentoring for the Nursing Program and NMWC. Responsibilities include strategic planning and assessment, personnel supervision and staffing issues, knowledge and application of appropriate regulations and policies both local, state, and national agencies, budgetary completion and oversight for nursing and the NMWC, facilities and equipment planning, development of short and long-range goals, and provide support to each area to achieve the mission of the College. The Associate Dean will also collaboratively work with the Coordinator of Career and Technical Education and the Dean of Career Programs concerning Perkins plans and requests.

Academic Strategies:

  1. Work with faculty, administration, or groups outside the College to identify new instructional needs
  2. Oversight for the development, revision, approval, and implementation of credit courses, programs, and options in conjunction with the Program Directors
  3. Monitor academic trends that relate to curriculum and instruction in order to promote instructional and program improvements
  4. Provide administrative leadership and oversees the Registered Nursing and Practical Nursing Programs in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Acts
  5. Work with Nursing Program Directors and Program faculty to enhance or increase student retention
  6. Attend periodic Division/Program meetings, run by the Nursing Program Directors
  7. Represent the Division/Program in college-wide and state-wide meetings
  8. Maintain quality of standards for the Program as established by accrediting and/or state agencies
  9. Implementation and tracking core work metrics, learning outcomes assessment, accreditation standards and student evaluations
  10. Work with Program Directors to prepare all documentation for new or revised curricula to ACEN and Boards of Nursing
  11. Review all academic publications prior to publishing for Nursing and NMWC

Faculty Mentorship:

  1. Responsible for recruiting and hiring full-time and part-time faculty and staff. Oversee the evaluation process of the Program Directors in evaluating the faculty and staff
  2. Oversee the Nursing Program Directors submitting employees for promotion, tenure, and advancement in class
  3. Monitor the conduct of the Nursing Program Directors and faculty to ensure the instruction is geared toward the development of more effective learners
  4. Oversee the professional development of administrators, faculty and staff in the Nursing Program
  5. Perform teaching and administration evaluations of the Program and NMWC Directors
  6. Foster a positive work environment, promoting collegiality within the Division/Program
  7. Encourage service learning and civic engagement activities

Program Development Leadership:

  1. Responsible for the preparation and management of the annual Program and NMWC budget as well as being a good steward of College finances
  2. Develop and review short-range and long-range goals for the Program and NMWC areas
  3. Accountable for completing Program Review according to the yearly assessment calendar
  4. Prepare and/or review the departmental transitions/succession plan
  5. Promote and attend College marketing activities such as open-houses, College Fairs, and community sponsored activities
  6. Attend Nursing Pinning and Graduation ceremonies at each campus/location

Planning/Reporting:

  1. Lead the Program in ACEN accreditation process and complete annual reporting and/or substantive change reports as required by ACEN
  2. Chair Program bi-annual Advisory Board meetings and maintain communication about the Program as needed with communities of interest
  3. Complete annual reports for State Boards of Nursing and National League for Nursing
  4. Provide support to the Program through grant writing when applicable
  5. Prepare full-time payroll, overload and part-time faculty pay reports each semester, including summer, and provide to HR/payroll for processing
  6. Other duties, including committee and/or task force assignments, as assigned by the vice President of Instructional and Student Affairs
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
Required: Master’s degree in nursing; Minimum of five years related experience that includes supervision of faculty. Minimum five years teaching experience at a college or university.Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or hold compact state licensure. Experience in working with academic leadership at all levels.This position requires skills in the areas of management, oral and written communication, and computer software applications. Possess strong management and interpersonal skills. Effective leadership skills related planning, budgeting, and assessment are required. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.Preferred: Earned doctorate degree and previous supervisory experience of Nursing Program.
