JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the University Controller, the Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting manages accounting operations and staff. The Director issues timely financial reports, collaborates with internal departments for financial reporting and problem solving, maintains an adequate system of accounting records, maintains a comprehensive set of internal controls and efficient business practices designed to mitigate risk, enhances the accuracy of the organization’s reported financial results, and ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles as well as appropriate federal, state, and institutional regulations and standards.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as primary keeper of the University’s accounting records and accuracy of general ledger.

Ensuring compliance with GAAP, other federal, state, and institutional regulations and segregation of duties.

Develops and maintains accounting policies and procedures, evaluating and re-engineering when appropriate.Planning, organizing, and coordinating the month-end and year-end close process, including hands-on reconciliation experience of all GL accounts.billing of leases and timely payments of short term and long-term debt as appropriate.

Manage, direct and oversee accounts payable with budget check functionality.

Manages appropriate balances in assigned bank accounts ensuring timely bank reconciliations,

Ensuring accurate and timely completion of the University’s tax filings, long term debt, and capital asset schedules and adjustments, and other pertinent schedules and filings.

Preparing internal financial statements, including cash flow statements, debt service to credit ratio, and other ad-hoc financial analyses and reports as needed.

Training accounting staffs.

Other project duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s Degree Preferred).

Experience

7-9 years of experience in accounting and financial management, preferred in higher education

Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to be an agent of change in a rapidly changing environment

Ability to build relationships, act as an Accounting subject matter expert, and influence at all levels, both internally and externally

Proven ability to analyze large data to identify trends and drive innovation within the related field

Strong oral and written communication skills

Licenses or Certifications

CPA strongly preferred, but not required

Financial Responsibility

Manages budget and expenses for the team according to University policies and procedures.

Supervision

Training, coaching other employees, scheduling, providing daily work direction to other employees. Provide formal performance evaluation for other employees Hiring and Disciplinary action.

Special Knowledge

Expert at Microsoft Excel and Student Information Systems as it relates to accounting and financial management. Comfortable using products within Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Workday experience a plus.
