LSU Shreveport invites applications for the position of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychology, beginning August 2026. We seek a colleague committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly engagement, and student success in a diverse and inclusive environment. This tenure-track, 9-month position will join our faculty in the Master of Science in Counseling (MSC) and Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling (MSCRC) programs as a full-time Program Director.

The MSC program is fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), while the MSCRC is a new program that will seek accreditation. In addition to two master’s degree programs, we offer a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling. These programs are grounded in the practitioner-scientist training model, which balances clinical practice with scholarly knowledge. Our approach incorporates a wellness model, teaching counseling students how to consider the whole person and address cognitive, emotional, and behavioral issues from a developmental standpoint. This includes a specific focus on areas such as career development, crisis management, cultural factors, disability, relationships, spirituality, and technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach graduate Counseling and undergraduate courses in Psychology, as needed.
  • Supervise and mentor students in their clinical and academic development.
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities in counselor education or a related field.
  • Participate in service activities at the university, college, and department levels, as well as in community and the profession.
  • Collaborate with core faculty on program development and accreditation processes.
  • Shape and cultivate the strategic direction of the MSC and MSCRC programs, including engaging in critical program operations (e.g., admissions, advising, student progress monitoring, curriculum development, ensuring alignment of the program with accreditation standards).
  • Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes, program effectiveness, and compliance with accreditation standards, including submission of annual program assessment reports.
  • Manage graduate assistantships, including position descriptions, selection and oversight of graduate program assistants.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with support and partner organizations for practicum and internship training experiences.
  • Represent the program at recruitment events, orientations, and other university functions, and respond to inquiries from prospective students and other stakeholders (university administration, accrediting bodies, community constituents).
  • Work with campus leadership (Chair, Deans in CEHD, Dean of Graduate Studies) to develop and support a strategic enrollment plan with the goal of preparing ethical and effective practitioners.

Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program OR a doctoral degree in a related discipline with at least one (1) year employment as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program before July 1, 2013.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and supervision in a CACREP-accredited program in Counselor Education or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accessible teaching practices, including online instruction.
  • Evidence of scholarship and continued research agenda in the field of counselor education Demonstrated commitment to develop partnerships with community agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Licensed as a Professional Counselor / Licensed-eligible in the state of Louisiana OR Certified as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) / CRC-eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of six (6) years experience as an instructor of record in master’s and/or doctorate-level face-to-face clinical mental health counseling or rehabilitation counseling instruction in a post-secondary or college institution.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of service in an administrative role in higher education or in another organization within the program director’s discipline.
  • Membership in a professional association tied to the counseling profession.
