Job description

University of Mount Olive is a private, faith-based liberal arts institution and the only private university in North Carolina offering multiple degrees in agriculture and biological sciences. The University has approximately 975 traditional undergraduate students, and the School of Agriculture and Biological Sciences has approximately 300 students seeking undergraduate degrees in agricultural and biological fields. The campus is located in eastern North Carolina, in the heart of the state’s agricultural industry.

The School of Agriculture and Biological Sciences is seeking applicants for a full-time (12-month) faculty position. The candidate sought should have qualifications enabling them to teach courses in agricultural education and the ability to teach classes in additional areas, possibly including agribusiness, agricultural communications, agricultural leadership, agricultural mechanics, animal science, biology, chemistry, education, horticulture, natural resources, plant science, precision agriculture, soil sciences, and veterinary bioscience. All candidates must have a North Carolina CTE: 0700 Agricultural Education (6-12) or equivalent teaching license from another state.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate classes and labs delivered in a seated, online, and hybrid format. Teaching responsibilities will include the preparation and teaching of lower and upper-level undergraduate courses. Demonstrated success as an instructor with innovative and hands-on teaching techniques is preferred. Candidates will engage in service with secondary and post-secondary agricultural education at the state, regional, and national levels. This involvement will occur throughout the calendar year and will include professional development of teachers, recruitment of new students, outreach with FFA & 4-H, and assistance with School-hosted outreach events. Research is encouraged and supported, but not required for this position.

The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate mission of the School and University. The candidate would also participate in School activities, collegiate club activities, student farm development, and other facility enhancement projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Agricultural Education or a related field is preferred. However, the University will consider candidates with a Master’s degree in Agricultural Education.
