Job Summary/Basic FunctionThe Department of Social Work at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#168060) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will be highly engaged in research and community service, and pursue interdisciplinary collaboration with potential for external funding and contracts. The department expects a collaborative, engaged, student-centered approach to performance and responsibilities. Required EducationA terminal degree (PhD, DSW or equivalent) in social work AND a Master of Social Work from a CSWE accredited program are required by the appointment date.

Required Related ExperienceAn equivalent of two (2) years of post-master’s social work practice paid or volunteer experience is required. The applicant must clearly identify their post-master’s social work practice experience in the curriculum vitae, which may include practice with individuals, families, groups, or communities, in policy or advocacy roles and other applicable settings connected to social work practice. Applicants should include specific dates (month and year) and indicate full or part-time on the curriculum vitae to document the required work experience.

Required License/Registration/CertificationLicensed or license-eligible at the Master of Social Work level is required by the appointment date.

Other DesirablesApplicants with the following will receive special consideration:

  • Experience in one or more areas of social work practice in micro, mezzo or macro settings and within an interdisciplinary perspective and scope.
  • Evidence of or strong potential for securing external funding for research or community engagement.
  • One (1) year of experience teaching in a higher education setting .
