Summary of Position

Red Rocks Community College is seeking a qualified Instructor to join the Electrical Industrial/Commercial (EIC) department to deliver high-quality instruction in accordance with the Colorado Community College System’s philosophy and RRCC policies. Reporting to the EIC Department Chair, the instructor will provide engaging, student-centered teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats, primarily during evening hours at the Lakewood campus. Core responsibilities include delivering curriculum aligned with course objectives, preparing instructional materials, assessing student progress, and maintaining accurate records using Desire2Learn (D2L) and Banner. The role requires a strong understanding of construction drawings, electrical estimating, labor and materials costing, and value engineering.

The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, clear communication, and the ability to support a diverse student population with patience and respect. Instructors are expected to attend department meetings, respond to student inquiries within 24-48 hours, and stay engaged in departmental planning and assessment efforts. A minimum of 4,000 hours of recent (within the last 7 years) non-teaching occupational experience in the field is required to qualify for a post-secondary CTE credential.

The role may involve up to 28 hours per week for a maximum of 9 months, depending on budget and need. Weekday hours are 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with some flexibility required. The finalist must designate Colorado as their primary work location, including for any online teaching.

The compensation for this position is $1,177.73 to $1,826.60/credit hour, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt temporary staff position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings
  • Experience in estimating construction projects with an emphasis on electrical costing
  • Experience in producing take-offs, specifications, and direct job overhead
  • Ability to organize an estimate by demonstrating a knowledge of illustrating examples of labor, assembly, and unit pricing and compose a schedule
  • Ability to analyze the effects of value engineering, change order pricing, and remodel/addition estimating

Required Qualifications

  • Qualifies for post-secondary CTE credential including 4000 non-teaching occupational hours within the last 7 years.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in a classroom environment and uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Pay
