Job Description

The School of Education at Xavier University invites applications for a full-time teaching professor position, specializing in Special Education, beginning Fall 2026. The position will support our graduate programs and our undergraduate majors, teaching four courses per semester in Special Education. In the Special Education program, there are many programs: Mild/Moderate Intervention Specialist, Moderate/Intense Intervention Specialist, P-5 Primary Intervention Specialist, Pre-K Special Needs Endorsement, Gifted and Talented Endorsement, along with two minors in Special Education and two Master degrees. The position also provides service within the School of Education in a number of ways, such as maintaining records of students, e.g., for academic advising; responsibility for oversight and student disposition process in field placements in collaboration with the Field Coordinator; maintaining and developing relationships with area schools; maintaining state accreditation information; and assisting with enrollment and recruitment. This position reports to the School of Education leadership. Visa sponsorhsip is not available for this position.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaching a variety of courses within the Special Education Program
  • Recruiting potential new undergraduate and graduate students for teacher licensure and master’s degrees including program orientation. The position involves learning a database system for maintaining student records and using this system to guide and support students throughout their programs and for retention in the programs.
  • Collaborating with the Field Coordinator for all major field experiences for licensure for students that include the preparation of documentation for host schools and supervisors.
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with area schools including public and private elementary, middle and high schools.
  • Maintaining student records and data, assuring that students are meeting program and licensure requirements and supporting national and state accreditation.
  • Reviewing and communicating with program director and administrative staff to ensure all requirements are complete for students in licensure and degree programs.
  • Acting as a liaison with schools to assist in recruiting and maintaining endorsement programs.
  • Supporting the Field Coordinator to, interview, hire, and supervise field personnel with appropriate credentials

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate
  • Current licensure or the ability to be licensed in Special Education within the first year of employment: existing Ohio licensure or the ability to transfer license to Ohio from another state
  • Licensure or supervision experience in gifted and talented and/or transition to work
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in education with a minimum of 5 years of classroom experience as the teacher of record
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational skills, especially in managing paper and electronic files
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team within and among the School of Education.
  • Preference will be given to those who have collegiate teaching experience.
  • Preference will be given to those who have supervisory experience
  • Preference will be given to those with additional credentials such as TESOL, Reading, and School Administration
